Big Jay entertains Kansas University football fans gathered to wish the team well on their trip to the Orange Bowl to face Virginia Tech.

The Jayhawks received the royal treatment from fans on Thursday morning as they left Lawrence en route for Miami, where they will take on Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 3.

The Jayhawks took the bus to Forbes Field in Topeka, then flew to Florida, where they will take on Virginia Tech on Jan. 3 in the Orange Bowl. Hundreds of fans braved frigid morning temperatures to send the team off Thursday.
After greeting Kansas Coach Mark Mangino, fans Star Novak and Anna Clovis, right, show their jubilation outside the charter bus. A few hundred fans braved the cold to give the Jayhawks a warm sendoff outside Allen Fieldhouse.
