Lt. Col. Kevin Wright, right, accepts retirement from Col. Peter Utley on June 13 at Fort Knox, Ky. Wright, who graduated from Baldwin High School and the U.S. Military Academy, served in the Army for 24 years. He is the son of Kay Wright, Lawrence.
People attending the Johnson-Vann family reunion in Lawrence took a break from their picnic at Centennial Park to pose for a photo. The family traces its roots to Mattie and David H. Vann, who moved to Lawrence from Mapleton in 1942. The gathering, conducted July 27-28, drew about 250 people from as far away as California, Arizona, Washington state and New York. Events at the reunion also included a mixer and dance.

From left are Gaylene Bartlett Beatty, Janice Cates Johnson, Joyce Webb, Terri Redding Evinger and Mary Gauthier. The friends have gathered monthly since 1978. Gauthier was a teacher at Lawrence High School, and the other women were her students. They were together for Beatty's 20th wedding anniversary celebration June 16, 2007.

The Betty Washington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution honored the service of the late Fay Talley on July 3. Gerry Livers, left, presented a plaque to Jerome Hanson, commander of American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 in Lawrence. Talley served on the DAR's Veterans Committee for many years.
