Bill Snead Retrospective

"In Cold Blood" Killers-In 1963 Perry Smith and Richard Hickock, right, headed for their last hearing to appeal for their lives in federal court in Topeka, Kansas. This was the last picture taken of the two who earlier were convicted of murdering Herbert and Bonnie Clutter and their two children in their Holcolm, Kansas home. The two were hanged in 1965. Truman Capote wrote a best selling novel about Smith and Hickock, "In Cold Blood."

I have seen this picture in various articles/websites and the person on the right is identified as Richard Hickock. Is there a possibility that this information is incorrect? Lack of guards and the facial expression seems to make the identification questionable... for me at least. THANKS.

Here is the original photo description from 2006"Killers Richard Hickock, foreground, and Perry Smith, in suit, walk through the federal courthouse in Topeka in this 1963 photo taken by Bill Snead of the Journal-World, who was then a photographer for the Topeka Capital-Journal."Does that help?My stepmother lived in the Holcomb area, and knew the family. She wouldn't let me read the book in the house, and wouldn't talk about it at all. it really shook her up, even years later.

High-waters were popular back then, I suppose.

Just curious. I heard awhile back that the house and land in Holcomb was recently for sell and I was wondering if anyone bought it.
