Jerry de Noyelles scowers a research pond for Topeka Shiners at the Kansas Aquatic Research Station. Noyelles, pictured on Wednesday, is deputy director of Kansas Biological Survey and professor in the department of ecology and evolutionary biology. He is the leading researcher of the Topeka Shiner Behavior Research project.

Jerry de Noyelles, left, explains the Topeka Shiner's reproduction process to a group of students from universities across the country. The students, from as far away as Columbia University in New York City, are studying organisms for 10 weeks as Kansas University. The students were introduced to the Topeka Shiner Behavioral Research project on Wednesday at the Kansas Aquatic Research Station.
