Jerry de Noyelles scowers a research pond for Topeka Shiners at the Kansas Aquatic Research Station. Noyelles, pictured on Wednesday, is deputy director of Kansas Biological Survey and professor in the department of ecology and evolutionary biology. He is the leading researcher of the Topeka Shiner Behavior Research project.

The students, from as far away as Columbia University in New York City, are studying organisms for 10 weeks as Kansas University.
