Hail storms
Some of the photos below were submitted by LJWorld.com readers and show the sizes of hail stones that fell on Lawrence Sunday night.
Ian Babcock, 16, displays a hailstone that he picked up Sunday night outside his home at 845 Maine Street. His father, Robert Babcock, said it measured 2 1/4-inch by 1 3/8-inches and weighed 1.43 ounces. "It was probably originally somewhat larger, because we made him wait several minutes before allowing him to venture forth and pick it up, and the rain seems to melt the hail fairly quickly," the elder Babcock said.
