Cindy Becker, a nurse with ARJ Infusion Services, checks 8-year-old Jazmen Fowler’s dialysis catheter on June 29. Becker makes weekly visits between treatments. After checking and flushing out the catheter, Becker gave Jazmen a few presents, including a map and photo album, in preparation for Jazmen’s trip to the Mayo Clinic.
Jazmen Fowler enjoys an afternoon snack of soda and peanut butter crackers Wednesday afternoon to boost her blood sugar, which was significantly low. Along with diabetes, Jazmen has stiff person syndrome.
Fowler checked her blood sugar levels Wednesday afternoon, something that she has to do 4-6 times daily because of her diabetes. Diabetes tends to occur in people who have stiff person's syndrome. Her mother said Fowler is independent about many aspects of her condition.
Jazmen Fowler has the neurological disease stiff person's syndrome and will be traveling to the Mayo Clinic in order to receive treatment. The eight-year-old said her favorite things to do were sing and dance.
