Combine Derby at the Coffey County Fair August 1, 2005

Coffey County Fair demolition derby spectators with trackside seats shield themselves with hands, feet, blankets and sheets from dirt and mud kicked up by the contestants. The 125-year-old fair, the oldest continuous county fair in Kansas, featured six demolition combines during one heat of the competition.

Even though her uncle was driving in the Coffey County Fair's demolition derby, little Shelby Shepard, 2, of Burlington, covered her ears as the mufflerless motors roared on the track. The fair's demolition derby featured competitions for different kinds of vehicles.

Things don't look good for this entry in the Coffey County Fair demolition derby. Some suggested he was running his fuel a little rich. But, the smoke cleared and he rejoined the fun on Saturday night in Burlington.
