A farmer harvests corn east of the Clinton Dam on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018. This year’s corn harvest is now in full swing. Bobby Ewbank, branch manager for Ottawa Co-op’s south Lawrence elevator, said the elevator has taken in about 100,000 bushels of corn since farmers first started harvesting a week ago. Despite the lack of rain in June and July, yields have been from 60 to 150 bushels an acre, with some fields north of the Kansas River producing more than 200 bushels. “It’s not going to be good, but it’s not as bad as some of us thought it would be,” Ewbank said of the 2018 corn crop.
