Watkins Museum celebrates hippie history: Brittany Keegan, curator at the Watkins Museum of History, works to straighten a vintage, paisley dress from the 1960s as while setting up an exhibit, "Free State, Free Spirits: Lawrence's 1960s Counter Culture" with assistant curator Cole Finley, back right, and museum director Steve Nowak on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018 at the museum, 1047 Massachusetts Street. The exhibit aims to shed light on various cultural aspects including, art, music, clothing, social events and social enclaves relative to the counter culture of the era. An opening for the exhibit will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. At 6 p.m. Rusty Monhollon, author of "This is America? The Sixties in Lawrence, Kansas," will give a talk about connections to the era and polarization today.
