"Sun Hive: Kansas" is a collaborative piece by Kansas University associate professor of sculpture Matthew Burke and students Samuel Balbuena, Cameron Pratte, Vin Stenzel and Cortney Wise, on display now as part of the "Heating Up: Artists Respond to Climate Change" exhibition at the Lawrence Percolator. Last fall, Burke led a class devoted to sustainable art practices, which had groups of students working together to build Sun Hives, a German design that mimics nests found in nature and promotes healthy bee colonies over honey production.
