A portrait of a slave Maria Rodgers Martin, born in 1831, sits on a bed that is made with one of her quilts, Dec. 15, 2015, at the African American Quilt Museum and Textile Academy, 2001 Haskell Ave. Behind the bed on the wall hangs a quilt, "A Tribute to Maria Rodgers Martin" made as a collaborative effort by artists Marla Jackson, Tonia Johnson and several students.
