Vernon Geberth, a nationally known homicide expert, takes a break from teaching a "Practical Homicide Investigation" course for 40 police officers from six states gathered on Tuesday at the Eldridge Hotel, 701 Massachusetts St. The Lawrence Police Department has hosted Geberth, a retired detective and lieutenant-commander of the New York City Police Department, many times, and sent three officers to this year's training.
