Trei Dudley, 18, of Lawrence, receives hugs from Boys and Girls Club members Thursday during a pep rally for Dudley at Pinckney School. Dudley is going to Washington, D.C., to compete for the National Youth of the Year for the Boys and Girls Club of America. Dudley is currently the Southwest Youth of the Year and will join four other regional winners in vying for the honor. The award celebrates youth who have overcome enormous odds and demonstrated exceptional character and accomplishments All five finalists will have the opportunity to meet with President Barack Obama during the trip.
