World War II veteran, Jarek Piekalkiewicz fought with the Polish resistance during the Warsaw Uprising of 1944 and was held as a prisoner of war in Germany until liberated by U.S. forces on April 1, 1945. Piekalkiewicz, who is pictured on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, is a subject of a new book, Needle in the Bone, by Lawrence author, Caryn Miriam Goldberg.
