For 32 years, Lawrence resident Charley Mattingly has been forging steel and shoeing horses as a farrier. Instead of his customers coming to him, he meets them at horse shows and works from his truck, which is fully outfitted with all the necessities for doing his job. In this photo, Mattingly shapes a steel shoe. At right, his forger, which is attached to the truck, heats the shoes for shaping.
