In 2007, when Entergy Nuclear Operations sought a license extension for the Pilgrim reactor, it wrote: "The original 40-year license term was selected on the basis of economic and antitrust considerations rather than on technical limitations." Yet writers seemingly contradicted themselves in the same document: "During the design phase for a plant, assumptions concerning plant operating durations are incorporated into design calculations for plant systems, structures and components."
