Area law enforcement officers including Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Kansas Highway Patrol, the Lawrence Police Department and KU Office of Public Safety, participated in a breakfast at McDonald's and shopping with 40 children who attend Ballard Community Services' early dducation programs. The shopping was funded by Hallmark Cards.

While I love the whole deal of purchasing gifts for underprivileged kids, I have one question. Did Walmart pay to be the sole provider (with free advertising, like they need it) for these outings? The basketball team did the same thing. There are an abundance of retailers in Lawrence who could provide this service. Spread the wealth and free advertising around for gosh sakes. Walmart is doing fine on it's own.
