Assistant Wildlife Manager David Jenkins prepares to crimp a tracking band onto a mourning dove on a farm in Cherokee County. The bands will help the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks track the doves as they migrate, record the percent of the population harvested by hunters and the percent of the population that survives one year. The project is taking place across the state, and Jenkins’ team is about 20 doves away from its goal of 750.
