Kansas University junior Daniel Held, Seattle, gets a lesson in shofar making from Rabbi Zalman Tiechtel during a “Shofar Factory” put on by the Chabad Jewish Center on Tuesday at Wescoe Beach on the KU campus. The shofar, an instrument made from a ram’s horn, is a symbol of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, and sounding of the horn signifies a call to repentance. Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown today.
