Greg Coker, president of Kansas chapter 3 of International Harvester Collectors watches smoke billow from the exhaust of a 1953 McCormick Super WD6 tractor as it’s started in the garage of Douglas County resident Judy Pierson. Almost 30 tractors from the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s were moved from Pierson’s farm Wednesday morning. All of them, which will be auctioned this weekend at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Gardner, were restored by Pierson’s husband, John Pierson, a Douglas County resident who died in 2008 of complications from pancreatic cancer. “He loved working on old engines. He could make anything run.”
