Thirty-five years ago, Lawrence resident Lee Ketzel, 82, helped form a statewide nonprofit called Kansans for Improvement of Nursing Homes. The nonprofit sparked change for better care, consistent enforcement of health and safety rules, and responsible oversight of adult care homes. At left is executive director Mitzi McFatrich, of the nonprofit agency, which is now called Kansas Advocates for Better Care. Every year, the agency releases a report on nursing home inspection trends.
