Ornate box turtles pass each other on low ground. Reading the age of a turtle is a lot like the rings of a tree - you can tell how old they are by the upper shell, or carapace, which will have radiating yellow lines that can be counted to get a general idea of the turtle's age; they can live to 30 years or more.
