This photo released by New Zealand Fisheries Department shows an unidentified New Zealand fisherman with a giant squid caught this week in the Ross Sea, Antarctica. The creature, known as a colossal squid, is thought to be the largest squid found anywhere in the world, weighing an estimated 990 pounds. Colossal squid are found in Antarctic waters and are not related to giant squid found around the coast of New Zealand. Giant squid grow up to 39 feet but are not as heavy.
