Plump, green heads of wheat like this one at the Fort Hays State Agricultural Research Center south of Hays are the exception to the rule in Kansas so far this year. An ongoing drought continues to plague most wheat farmers. Some farmers have revised their bushels-per-acre estimates from the mid-30s to somewhere in the 20s.
