Rick Wagoner, chairman and CEO of General Motors Corp., announces plans to cut 30,000 manufacturing jobs and close nine North American assembly, stamping and powertrain plants by 2008 as part of an effort to get production in line with demand and return the company to profitability and long-term growth. Wagoner said Monday that GM also would close three service and parts operations centers as part of the manufacturing cuts.
