A portrait of John Philip Sousa, circa the 1890s, is among the personal papers, music and other memorabilia from America's best-known bandmaster that is being displayed to celebrate Sousa's 150th birthday. The monthlong music celebration is a first step in establishing a new Center for American Music at the University of Illinois that would house the world's largest archive of original compositions and arrangements by Sousa.
