Patricia Lightner, one of the three Republicans running in
Tuesday's Republican primary for the 3rd Congressional District,
responded to questions this morning in a live online chat on
ljworld.com, the Web site for the Lawrence Journal-World.
Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical personnel stood by this
morning while a natural gas line was shut off at 10th and Kentucky
streets. A back hoe working in the area had ruptured the line. The
line was shut off by Aquilla, the city's natural gas utility.

Legislation recently proposed in Congress would give every American
newborn a $500 savings account beginning in January 2006, with an
additional $500 for those babies born into poverty. Chris and

traffic. In an effort to make life a little easier for those
traveling by bike, the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission
is working on a new master plan of where bicycle lanes and trails
could be installed in coming years.
