Kenia Esparza, 15, left, a Salina Central High School freshman, hugs her mother, Lucia, and her father, Leonardo, after giving her mother 15 roses at the 4-H Building in Salina. Each rose represents a year in Kenia's life and were presented to thank her mother as part of Kenia's Quinceanera ceremony. The ceremony is a rite of passage for Hispanic girls, similar to a debutante's coming out party.
