Bill Naff's maple tree is in the path of construction for widening Sixth Street west of Lawrence. Naff and his wife, Darlene, were relieved to learn Monday that the Kansas Department of Transportation will try to spare the tree by working around it. The tree, on the south side of Sixth Street west of Wakarusa Drive, has prompted passersby to stop in the fall to take pictures.
