Lawrence High senior pitcher Ashley Burnett unleashes a pitch

Larry Welch, director of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, knew
as a child in small-town Kansas that he wanted a law-enforcement
career. The 66-year-old Lawrence resident and 1958 Kansas
University School of Law graduate, worked for the FBI and directed
the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center near Hutchinson before
he became the top KBI official.

image of unity after a divisive opening day, al-Douri, the top
Iraqi, and Saudi delegates entered the hall together Thursday in a
Bruce Guffey, of Lawrence, has been driving the Kansas University
basketball team throughout the NCAA Tournament in St. Louis,
Madison, Wis., and now Atlanta. The Jayhawks hope their bus driver
will continue to be a good-luck charm as they enter the Final Four.
This year's Raintree Run will honor the memory of 4-year-old Jack
Stineman, who died after a car accident in June. Jacquie Stineman,
Jack's mother, is shown in front of oversized photos of her son
that will appear on the course at the run, which is April 14.

schoolchildren took place at the school's nature area. The burn
will allow the grasses and plants to regenerate.

Raytheon. Graves has come under criticism from conservative
Republican legislators for the cost of using the plane while the
state faces budgetary belt-tightening.
