Letter to the editor: Waste of money

To the editor:

This letter is in reference to the city’s $450,000 gift to public art. They (the City Commission) need to check their wallets.

The homeowners in Old West Lawrence are asked to pay repairs on a drain ditch that is the city’s problem to fix.

The homeowners on Queens Road are being told they will have to pay for the new road. Again, the city is passing the buck. If those homeowners have to pay for any city projects, why should public art get $450,000? Let them pay their own way. Quit wasting taxpayers’ money. Seems as though each new commission tries to waste more money and raise cost of living more than the previous commission.

I live in the county but shop in Lawrence and pay taxes on what I buy. A lot of county folks do the same. Quit wasting our money.

Robert Lemon,

Lawrence
