Letter to the editor: Shame on thief

To the editor:

While it is unlikely that a common thief would read letters to the editor, I thought I would give this a try.

About 1:30 p.m. on a recent Wednesday, I left the express checkout lane at the Hy-Vee on Clinton Parkway, and I’m certain that I left my wallet on the counter there. I missed the wallet as soon as I got home, so I called Hy-Vee. They promptly checked their lost-and-found box and searched around the express check-out. My wallet had not been turned in. Apparently, some thief walked off with it.

I’m hoping the thief will read this and decide to ease his/her conscience a bit by returning the new wallet and its contents, which include important medical ID cards, driver’s license, etc. It would be helpful if some of the 60-plus dollars were returned, too.
