Do you think overweight people experience prejudice?

Asked at Borders, 700 N.H. on February 23, 2005

“Yes. I think people tend to think of overweight people as lower class citizens, and if they are treated that way, then they begin to feel that way.”

“Yes, I think they do if they are obese and not just overweight. I think people place a moral judgment on them because they think they lack self-control and discipline.”

“I guess it's really case dependent, but they especially experience it in school. When you're little, nothing hurts worse than being called fat. It rarely stops at school.”

“Yes. I feel that society has expectations built on what people should or shouldn't look like, and because of a large media influence, most people just don't accept overweight people.”
