Should schools continue to emphasize physical education while facing budget cuts?
Asked at New Hampshire Street on March 10, 2004
“Of course. It’s my understanding that today’s youths are a lot more out-of-shape than they used to be. Kids are fatter and lazier, and if climbing a rope helps, I’m all for it.”
“Yes. It’s a known fact that physical well-being contributes to overall well-being.”
“If it’s just P.E., they shouldn’t cut the budget. But as far as team sports go, if they gave a fraction of that budget to health and fitness, they wouldn’t have to cut majors.”
“Living in the most obese country on the planet, there always needs to be a focus on cardiovascular exercise. People need to learn how to take care of themselves.”
