Will Lawrence bars and restaurants be hurt if a proposed smoking ban goes into effect?
Asked at Borders Book, Music and Cafe, 700 N.H. on March 3, 2004
“In the short-term, maybe, but long-term, no. It’ll probably hurt the drinking establishments more because a lot of people who drink still smoke.”
“I don’t think it would hurt business. It usually just enables people to not smoke at social gatherings. I don’t think it’ll be a big deal.”
“I would like it better, but I think it would hurt business because people enjoy smoking there.”
“I think it’ll surprise people, but business won’t fall off. As much as it seems an integral part of the bar scene, people go for other reasons. They’ll complain, but business won’t decrease.”
