Does a separate department for athletics and special programs for college athletes isolate them from the rest of the university?

“It’s kind of half and half. They do segregate athletes from the rest of the school, kind of like princes, but it brings money to schools.”
“Yes. Athletics are over-emphasized in school. It’s become too big a part of college with less emphasis on education.”
“Yeah, I think it does. The whole college athletic system needs to be overhauled.”
“I’m not sure it’s the separate programs as much as the significant difference in financial support for athletics compared to other parts of the university.”
