Should Congress enact a federal hate-crimes law?

“No, actually, I don’t think they should. It seems ridiculous. If somebody commits a crime, it’s a crime.”

“If we enforce the laws we have, certainly we should be able to do what we need to do.”

“I think they should. Crimes are being committed because of someone’s race or sexual orientation. If there is a law, people who are intent on committing these crimes will be discouraged.”

“I think that it’s important that hate crimes be addressed in some way, whether that be a law or whether that be living a lifestyle that indicates you support people regardless of race, class, gender, sexual orientation or other delineations.”
