Should a Michigan high school have sent a boy home for wearing a T-shirt with the words “inter-national terrorist” and a picture of President Bush?
Asked at Centennial Park on February 20, 2003
“No way. Isn’t everyone allowed freedom of speech, no matter how old they are?”
“I think it depends. Some other kids may kick his butt; I can see the safety issues involved. I don’t think I would send him home, but I can see the logic.”
“I don’t think kids care too much. Do kids see that as a threat, or as a kid standing out in the crowd?”
“I don’t think so. It’s not a cigarette or beer logo or anything like that, it’s just the kid’s opinion. If it was making a ruckus in class, maybe, but if not, no.”
