Do universities place too much emphasis on sports?
Asked at the Kansas Union on December 7, 2003
“I’d say it’s a pretty even balance. They’re pretty proud of academic standings, too.”
“Personally, I don’t think they do. I think it’s a big money-maker for them and it brings notoriety.”
“A lot of the prestige is dependent on that. So they spend a lot, but it’s in a way justified.”
“I would say in most cases universities attempt to weigh emphasis on academics along with athletic programs. But you can’t stop what people enjoy.”
