How would having an openly gay bishop affect the Episcopal Church?
Asked at Borders Books, Music & Cafe on August 6, 2003
“I think it’s great. I think it should happen.”
“I would hope that it would open the church up to change in our society and to be more accepting of the diversity that our country is.”
“It would mean the Episcopal Church is no longer a Christian church. Christianity isn’t something you vote on. Heaven isn’t a democracy. You have to say ‘this is where I stand,’ without, of course, making other people feel like they’re less. We’re all equal in dignity.”
“I think it’s time the Christian religion accepts people for who they are and accepts people for their sexuality.”
