Do you think California’s “three strikes and you’re out” law should be repealed?
Asked at Massachusetts Street on November 16, 2002
“Yes, it should depend on the case.”
“It seems to me a judge should have leeway to determine in certain cases if someone should take that harsh of a penalty. Our sentencing system is pretty reactionary at this point.”
“Yes, because it’s almost completely arbitrary. It has little or nothing to do with justice.”
“I think it should be repealed because, if I’m correct, a few years ago someone went to death row because he stole a bike and it was his third strike.”
