Do you think that charitable donations will decrease this year because the economy is slow?
Asked at Free State Brewery on July 18, 2002
“It won’t make any difference to us, to what we give.”
“I don’t think so. Charitable people give no matter what the economy.”
“They would have to if people aren’t making as much money. People can’t give as much if they aren’t making as much.”
“Some people will still give, but they may redirect where their contribution goes.”

I co-direct a humanitarian relief organization in the US. Contributions have fallen from a record high in January 08 to a record low over Feb & March. Our campaigns which are usually successful in inspiring both new and our established donors to give have had practically no response at all. If this trend continues, we will regretfully have to fold. To those of you who have given to your preferred charities in the past and who still can afford to do so, please continue your giving. It is needed now more than ever.
