Does Starbucks belong in downtown Lawrence?
Asked at Massachusetts Street on February 23, 2002
“Actually my girlfriend is a member of Delta Force, and they made a pro-local coffee shop coupon book because they are protesting today. So, no, I’m not down with it.”
“Definitely not, because it’s pretty much planned to be next to Eldridge Hotel so it will attract the travelers. And it’s not a bad business maneuver that it’s right down the block from the local mom-and-pop coffee shops.”
“No, because the reason downtown Lawrence is unique is the local business, and I want it to stay that way.”
“Yeah, I think it’s a great addition. We have a good variety of coffee shops, and I think it’s good to have something a bit more well known.”
