What do you think about plans to build a Wal-Mart Supercenter at Sixth Street and Wakarusa Drive?
Asked at the Lawrence Aquatic Center on August 17, 2002
“Adamantly no. Lawrence is a one Wal-Mart town. It’s too busy down there.”
“That’d be great we won’t have to drive so far. All the shopping is at the south end of town right now.”
“I see pros and cons. We wouldn’t have to drive so far, but traffic down there will be terrible. If they fix that corner, I’d support it.”
“I don’t need it personally. I can do fine with Dillons and Hy-Vee.”

Hy-vee is WAY over priced. Dillions has some good specials but not a lot. It would be good to get some competition for those business'. I have to plan out to go to wal-mart after work that way I don't use up all my gas by running back and forth. I live on the west side and it seems all the good stuff is on the south east. Bring some good stuff my way!

Did someone really just post a comment on this question from 2002?

Dillons is the largest convience store in town. It is easy to get in and our of because nobody shops there. Strike that. It is easy to get in and out as long as you are okay with the self check out lanes. That shows greed. How many college kids in this town would like a job being a checker? Sorry, they prefer a computer. They don't talk back or want to take some time off. Their two price system is a joke. (Ya gotta have a card) If the lower price is not good for eveeryone, then why is it good for a few? That is discrimination as far as I am concerned. I avoid it like the plague. I love Hy-Vee! Regarding Wal-Mart, I don't know why the LJW even brings this question up? That horse has been beaten to death so much, nothing is going to change. It will b e built, regardless of what the locals want and most of us don't want it. LJW is just trying to stir a pot.
