Should judges be allowed to impose punishments more severe than sentencing guidelines?

“Yeah. A lot of times crimes are harsher than sentencing guidelines allow for and the punishment should fit the crime.”

“The sentencing guidelines are really strict and I think judges should have the discretion to impose whatever sentence they feel fits the crime.”

“Yeah, they should, definitely, because circumstances change. Nothing’s ever the same. You have to personalize the sentence to the crime.”
