John F. Ragen

John Francis Ragan, 71, Lawrence, died Monday, April 2, 2018 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born March 8, 1947 in Kansas City, KS, the son of Maurice Edward, Sr. and Beatrice Marcella Chontos Ragan. He was a 1966 graduate of Tonganoxie High School. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran serving during the Vietnam era May 14, 1967 to the end of his Reserve Service on April 20, 1973. John retired after 10 years as a boiler operator at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. He had formerly worked 12 years as a painter at the Sunflower Ordnance plant in DeSoto and seven years at KMart Distribution Center, Lawrence. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Tonganoxie and Ozawkie American Legion Post #225. Survivors include, one sister, Mary (Rocky) Himpel, Tonganoxie, five brothers, Maurice Ragan, Jr., Oskaloosa, Robert “Bob” (Dorothy) Ragan, Easton, Daniel “Dan” (Jackie) Ragan, Oskaloosa, Mark Ragan, Oskaloosa and Tom (Jody) Ragan, Oskaloosa. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM, Saturday at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Perry, KS, Visitation 1:00 to 2:00 PM before Mass at the Church. Burial at Pleasant View Cemetery, Oskaloosa.
