Arnold Edward Harwood

Arnold Edward Harwood, 86 of McLouth, died August 31, 2017 at the Leavenworth VA. He was born in Lawrence, KS on July 17, 1931 to Frank and Helen Winslow Harwood. He graduated from McLouth High School in 1949. Arnold served as a US Navy Seabee from 19501953. Arnold later farmed in McLouth and worked as a union carpenter. Arnold enjoyed hunting, building hot rod tractors, and trap shooting. He was a talented gunsmith and the first Jefferson County Certified Kansas Hunter Safety Instructor. Arnold served three terms on the USD 342 School Board, and he volunteered as the first McLouth Recreation Commissioner. He was married to Ruby Lobb Harwood for 38 years and is survived by their children: Melinda Harwood (Mark Esslinger) McLouth, Sandra Ihly, Washington, David (Tracy) Harwood, Colorado, Myra Harwood, Leavenworth, Frank (Jamie) Harwood, De Soto. Survivors also include 11 grandchildren and two sisters, Marie (Earl) Bahnmaier and Pearl Vinlove. The family will welcome guests to a memorial visitation from 35p. m. at McLouth Recreation Center, 215 S. Union Street, Saturday September 9th, 2017.
