Talonna D’onn Reed

Talonna D’onn Reed, 54, fought her toughest and very last fight with metastatic breast cancer on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. She passed peacefully in the presence of family and some of her closest friends.
‘Tullie’, or ‘Apple’, as most of you knew her, was born on January 11, 1963 in Lawrence, KS to Kyra Alfrea (Wright) Ware and Thirl McDonald Reed (both deceased). She lived in Lawrence, KS all her life, attending Pinckney Elementary School, West Junior High School, and Lawrence High School. She was also a member of St. Luke AME Church.
Talonna worked as a preschool teacher, a job which she delighted in, and held various positions in production, but she landed her ‘dream job’ when she became a Grandma. Anyone who knew ‘Tullie’ knew just how much she loved her grandbabies–there was nothing in the world she wouldn’t do for them. Her love for Mia and Markus, her want and need to always be there for them, is what helped her fight tooth and nail to do the best she could to beat breast cancer.
Talonna is survived by two daughters, Keyonna M. Reed of Overland Park, KS, and Marka E. Nelson of Lawrence, KS; two sisters, Cheryl (Smith) Wilson of Columbia, TN, and Madonna Reed of Lawrence, KS.; two grandchildren, Mia Monegro, 8, and Markus Cruse, 5. She is preceded in death by her brother, William Wright of Rowlett, TX.
She will be remembered for her contagious laughter, her motherly disposition, her tellitlikeitis, yet humorous personality, and, above all else, her unwavering strength.
Services will be held at St. Luke AME Church on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
