Ellis J. Allison

Ellis (EJ) Allison, 88, passed away peacefully at home on June 8, 2017. Born in Chanute, Kansas, EJ graduated from Salina High School and served with the US Army in postwar Japan. He earned a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1952 and went to work for the city of Lawrence, later becoming City Engineer. Married for 65 years to Marjorie Jaeger, they raised their family in Lawrence, moving to Olathe, Kansas, in retirement. While in Lawrence, he started his own engineering firm, later moving into construction and real estate development. EJ was an avid golfer and had many friends in the area as well as in Harlingen, Texas, where he and Marge spent their winters. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ellis Jefferson and Florence Morgan Allison. Survivors include his sister, Peggy Weatherston, in Layton, Utah; his wife Marge and their three daughters: Diane Fleer (Steve) in Olathe; Cheryl Morton (Bill) in Overland Park; and Janice Heppermann (Jeff) in Humble, Texas; along with 8 grandchildren and 6 greatgrandchildren. A celebration of EJ’s life is being planned for July 29, 2017, at 1:00 pm at Santa Marta Retirement Community in Olathe. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting that memorial gifts be made in his memory to the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Association, Oncology Services. Anyone who met EJ soon realized they had a friend for life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
