Dennis Lyn Alexander

Dennis Alexander, our sweet cowboy, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 66. Born in Lawrence, Kansas, on April 29, 1950 to George and Florine Alexander, Dennis was raised in the country riding horses and working cattle. He was active in Little Britches Rodeo, 4H showing livestock, high school and college rodeo, and a member of the United Rodeo Association. His love was calf roping. He attended Fort Hays State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry. There at Fort Hays he met the love of his life, Renee Elder, and were married on July 7, 1974.
Dennis managed a large cattle ranch in Lawrence, Kansas and Stratford, Texas, before moving to Newcastle, California in 1985. There Dennis worked for Placer County Water Agency for 27 years as a Canal Operator. Always attentive to his customers and made friends with everyone. There was no one he wouldn’t stop to help.
Dennis was most proud of his three beautiful children, Jesse, Clinton, and Shana and instilled in them the value and love of family, honesty, hard work ethic, and integrity. A simple man with a passion for family and life. Always a sense of humor and a huge smile to greet all. Lots of stories to tell, this hard working cowboy would always lend a helping hand. Dennis was a diehard Royals, Chiefs, and Jayhawker fan as well as a fan of his home state, Kansas and the Flint Hills. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, roping, working with horses and cattle, laughing, and never missed a Kansas Game. The past 10 years was most joyful as he spent time with his 5 grandsons teaching them to rope, ride, play ball, and numerous other fun activities. He was a child at heart and loved having fun. Dennis was the “best Gramps ever” and his grandchildren showered him with much love.
Dennis was a wonderful husband, proud and loving father and grandfather. A skilled cowboy with a smile to brighten anyone’s day. If Dennis called you his friend, you were mighty special. Dennis had a good life but taken from us way too soon. He will be with us and loved for eternity. Always and forever, my love.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife of nearly 43 years, Renee, sons Jesse Alexander (Bryn), Clinton Alexander (Mary), daughter Shana AlexanderDexter (Blake), grandsons Wyatt, Logan, Chance, Landon, Cash, and sister Barbara Parker (Roy). He leaves behind countless friends, family and coworkers that loved him.
Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, George and Florine Alexander of Lawrence, Kansas.
